President Museveni Praises Missionaries for Education and Healthcare Impact in Kigezi

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has lauded missionaries for their pivotal role in founding churches, contributing significantly to combating ignorance by constructing schools and health facilities. These sentiments were expressed in a speech delivered by Vice President Jessica Alupo during the centenary celebration of Rushoroza Cathedral parish at Rushoroza grounds.

President Museveni emphasized the transformative impact of missionaries in Kigezi, highlighting the region’s previous state of illiteracy, poverty, and underdevelopment. He acknowledged that missionary efforts extended beyond spiritual conversion, involving crucial education initiatives such as teaching individuals to read, write, and count. Additionally, Museveni credited the church for its instrumental role in establishing schools and health facilities, fostering education and promoting the importance of regular medical checkups.

Commending Bishop Rubaramira for advancing the developmental agenda initiated by previous bishops, President Museveni acknowledged the continued progress in the region.

During the celebration, Vice President Alupo conveyed a contribution of 50 million shillings from the president to support the rehabilitation of the cathedral parish.

Bishop Calistus Rubaramira of Kabale Diocese, who delivered a sermon during the mass presided over by His Excellency Archbishop Luigi Bianco, the Apostolic Nuncio to Uganda representing Pope Francis, expressed gratitude to the Missionaries of Africa for their significant role in establishing Rushoroza Cathedral Parish. He urged Christians to renew and strengthen their faith, both within the church and in their families.
