TEL AVIV — Israel is facing mounting international isolation over its war in Gaza, as a growing number of nations formally recognize the state of Palestine.
In recent weeks, Britain, Canada, Australia, Portugal, France, Belgium, and Monaco have extended recognition, joining more than 140 countries worldwide. According to the UN, at least 151 of its 193 members now officially recognize Palestine.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu admitted Israel is becoming a pariah on the global stage, but urged the nation to strengthen its independent arms industry, which reached a record $14.7 billion in exports in 2024. Much of this business came from European buyers, purchasing systems such as the Arrow missile interceptor and advanced F-35 variants.
However, the war in Gaza has triggered widespread protests and prompted key allies — including the UK, France, Spain, and the UAE — to restrict Israeli arms sales and limit the country’s participation in major defense exhibitions.
While Israel remains militarily capable, analysts warn the political and economic costs are mounting, with potential long-term consequences for its defense partnerships and global standing.
