Jocelyn Uchanda Honored with Lifetime Achievement Award at Real Stars Sports Gala

Jocelyn Uchanda, a key figure in Ugandan netball and a candidate for the Uganda Netball Federation presidency, was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Real Stars Sports Agency. The award ceremony, held on September 3, 2024, at Lazo Restaurant in Kololo, recognized Uchanda’s outstanding contributions to the sport over many years.

Uchanda has long been associated with the NIC Netball Club and the Uganda national netball team, the She Cranes, as their dedicated manager. Upon receiving the award, Uchanda expressed her gratitude, stating, “I am deeply touched by this recognition. It’s a reflection of the passion and commitment I’ve invested in netball. This award makes me feel truly special, and I am grateful to be valued in this way.”

She also took a moment to congratulate other award recipients from different sports disciplines, encouraging them to continue pursuing their passions. “In sports, whether it’s netball, football, boxing, or basketball, we are all one family. Success comes from loving what you do, and I urge all athletes to keep that love alive.”

This prestigious award has previously been given to notable sports figures like Former Mukwenda Godfrey Mbalire, recognized in July for his services to the Masaza Cup. Uchanda’s accolade underscores her significant role in Ugandan sports management and development.

The ceremony also celebrated top athletes from various sports. Julius Ssenyonga, a young and promising goalkeeper from Ssaza Ssingo, was named the best footballer of August. Ssenyonga, only 19 years old, kept three clean sheets in the 2024 Masaza Cup, earning him this recognition.

In basketball, Lydia Babirye, a USA-based college scholar, was awarded the best basketball player of August. Babirye’s performance in the Basketball 3×3 World Cup qualifier was instrumental in securing Uganda’s place in the upcoming event in Mongolia. She was chosen over other strong contenders like Joel Lukoji of KIU Rangers and Shakira Navubya of UCU Canons.

In boxing, John Sserunjoji was honored as the best boxer of August, marking his second ForteBet Real Stars Sports Monthly Award. Sserunjoji’s knockout victory over Egypt’s Ahmed Boloshy in the 8th round highlighted his prowess in the middleweight category.

All award winners received their accolades, which included monetary prizes, presented by Buikwe South aspiring Member of Parliament Isaac Mukasa, along with representatives from Jude Colour Solutions and ForteBet.

This event not only celebrated the achievements of Uganda’s top athletes but also highlighted the enduring contributions of leaders like Jocelyn Uchanda, whose dedication continues to inspire the next generation of sports talent in the country.
