Charles Muhangi Receives Posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award at Fortebet Real Stars Sports Awards

Uganda’s motorsport icon, Charles Muhangi, was posthumously honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Fortebet Real Stars Sports Monthly Awards for September 2024. Muhangi, who passed away in 2018, is celebrated as the first and only Ugandan to win the Africa Rally Championship (ARC) in 1999, a feat that still stands unmatched today.

The award was received by Petience Muhangi, his widow, during the ceremony at Lazo Restaurant in Kololo on October 8, 2024. Muhangi’s legacy as a pioneering force in Ugandan motorsport remains strong, and this accolade serves as a lasting tribute to his achievements.

Herbert Assimwe, Herbert Matovu, and Isaac Ariho Shine in September

Football: Herbert Assimwe Wins Footballer of the Month

Rising football sensation Herbert Assimwe, dubbed “Camavinga,” was named Footballer of the Month for his outstanding performances in September. Playing for Wakiso Giants in the Startimes Uganda Premier League, Assimwe scored in every match he played, including key goals against Mbale Heroes, Brightstars, and a brace against Maroons.

He further impressed in the Airtel Masaza Cup, where he netted two additional goals for Buwekula. Assimwe’s remarkable form beat out strong competition from Said Mayanja of KCCA FC and Enock Ssebagala of NEC FC.

During his acceptance speech, Assimwe credited his teammates, saying, “Being here is a testament to the teamwork at Wakiso Giants. I dedicate this award to the family of Purple Sharks.”

Boxing: Herbert Matovu Secures Knockout Win for September Award

In the boxing category, Herbert Matovu was crowned Boxer of the Month following his first-round knockout victory over Tanzania’s Kheri Mbaruku. The fight, part of the Africa Boxing Union (ABU) regional title event at YMCA on September 7, 2024, solidified Matovu’s reputation as a formidable boxer.

His performance outshone competitors Ukasha Matovu and Owen Kibira, securing his place as one of Uganda’s top fighters.

Woodball: Isaac Ariho Leads Uganda Prisons to Success

Woodball standout Isaac Ariho helped Uganda Prisons win their third consecutive Woodball League trophy, earning him the Woodball Player of the Month accolade. Ariho’s stellar September run saw him win six out of seven matches, including a 7-0 victory over Fred Turyakira of Prisons, and crucial wins against Simon Peter Otim of Stroke and Delick Ankunda of Ndejje at the season’s final event.

Ariho also proved his prowess in doubles matches, teaming up with Abednego Okello and Isaac Nabugere for victories over KIU and KU pairs.
